V is for Vaccine Rally in Sunrise, Florida

January 4, 2020–Today I took part in a V is for Vaccine rally outside the BB & T Center in Sunrise, Florida where Oprah Winfrey was kicking off her nationwide “Health and Wellness” tour. Weight Watchers, which Oprah partially owns, recently partnered with the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and suddenly Oprah has been pushing flu and pneumonia vaccines.
I used to really admire Oprah. Like thousands of other health advocates, I was dismayed to see Oprah on The Ellen DeGeneres Show exhorting the audience to “Get your flu shots and get your pneumonia shots, it’s nothing to play with. It takes people out.”
[For just some of the reasons why promoting flu vaccination is highly problematic and unscientific, click here, here, and here.]
It was a gorgeous day, sunny with a strong breeze. Over 50 vaccine education advocates showed up in the morning to catch people arriving and then again in the afternoon as people left the event. We held bold signs some of which read:
VACCINES KNOWN TO CAUSE SEIZURES, ENCEPHALITIS, AUTOIMMUNITY
75,000+ ADVERSE REACTIONS TO HPV VACCINE REPORTED
LIVE VIRUS VACCINES SHED AND SPREAD
WHERE THERE IS A RISK, THERE MUST BE A CHOICE
You get the gist.
I wore a shirt that read MY DAUGHER WAS INJURED BY VACCINES. We were on a busy corner. Each red light held captive audiences as those in cars squinted to see our signs. Hundreds of people heard our chants on their way in and out of the event.
Some averted their eyes. Most read our signs, curiously. Many gave us thumbs up and thanked us. I only noted three people with anything negative to say. This lady was one of them. Isn’t she sweet?
Standing with other parents and grandparents of vaccine-injured kids, I felt reverence. For their stories, for my daughter’s story, for all the families that are suffering as a result of vaccine injury. For all the mothers who could never come out to a rally like this, their energy and resources depleted from caring for injured children.
I’ve been at this vaccine education advocacy work for over a decade. Several years ago I took a break because it felt like no one was listening. I had decided to live and let live. The information was out there if people wanted to find it. I was done standing on my soap box.
But when pharma started forcing itself on our children via mandates (they are trying to pass SB64 in Florida, a bill that would eliminate religious exemptions and make medical exemptions all but impossible for children who need them) and censoring the information available on-line, I couldn’t sit out any longer. Forced medical procedures have no place in a free society.
Standing there I held my sign high, for my daughter. For all the friends I know whose children have been harmed. A lump formed in my throat.
People are waking up.
I feel a shift.
